iPhone Camera vs. Professional Camera: A Visual Comparison

Published 5 months ago • 1 min read

Mobile phone cameras tend to have an amateur look.

Sometimes, you can just tell when a photo was shot on an iPhone and when it was professionally shot with a DSLR or mirrorless camera.

Most people picture iPhone photos vs. professional photos shot with a fancy camera like this:

Obviously, the iPhone shot sucks. And the professional photo shot on my Nikon Z6II is MUCH better.

But that iPhone shot was taken quickly, without thought and with zero technique.

On the other hand, when thought, intention and professional photography techniques are applied when shooting with an iPhone camera, the results are transformational. Look:

Earlier this year I gathered a group of local business owners in studio to create content for their social media and also for my mobile phone photography course. I shot their products with my iPhone and with my professional mirrorless Nikon camera.

What I discovered by shooting simultaneously with my iPhone and my professional camera is that it's possible for my iPhone camera to keep up pretty well.

Better than I expected.

Here's another example:

Yes, there are major limitations to the iPhone camera -- but when applying professional techniques, I was able to achieve pro-looking photos with just my mobile phone camera.

If you develop a habit of applying pro techniques when shooting with your phone camera, great things will happen.

I teach this in my Mobile Phone Photography Course.

Remember, pro techniques are not just for pro cameras. It's for anyone with any camera.

Happy journey,

-Gabrielle
